I randomly ran into my ex at the airport the other day - he approached me at a Starbucks and asked to join me. We dated our junior year of college (we're both seniors now) and originally broke up because he met someone else, and he knew I was hurt by this, but it had been over a year at that point so I invited him to sit. We had a normal conversation until we started talking about our dating lives (both past and present), and at one point he was talking about some girlfriend from freshman year (whom he dated before me) and said "Yeah, I was not the heartbreaker my freshman year... that wasn't until my junior year," and then he gave me this really smug look, almost like he was openly saying he was proud of hurting me. I left to go to the gate a few minutes later. He's always been egotistical, but are there genuinely some people who get satisfaction out of hurting someone like that?
