In my case that break up was pretty bad. Two weeks before marriage. And I got over that ex maybe a year or so after, but I still missed the feeling of loving and being in love, the sort of dreams that inspires. It's like I stopped missing her but I still missed the feeling. And I was able to relive that some years later when I doubted if I still could with my now-wife, but I wouldn't have wanted to remain in the state of missing the feeling, not the person, indefinitely.
