As odd as it sounds, the first things I notice about a person aren't related to their facial features/expression, but to their posture (if they're standing), gait (if they're walking), and what they're doing with their hands.
If I had to speculate on why that is, I think it's because one can consciously manipulate their facial expression quite easily, whereas your overall stance requires more conscious effort to alter from your natural state. Ergo, attending to those signs gives more reliable information about a person than attending to their eyes, smile, etc.
