Is it unrealistic to expect to find a real relationship online?

I wanna try online dating and hoping to find a real thing and connection with someone out there.

  • No, not at all. It's maybe unlikely.

I honestly think it's unrealistic to expect to find a real relationship ANYWHERE unless you're lucky or work on it. The whole concept of marriage was invented as a means of trading humans for money, power or land back in the day.

  • Only one of these has worked out in my circle of friends
another one that almost counts was a gal who was dumped from a marriage she catered to him 24/7, then lived with a boyfriend forever, but never got a proposal, so went on line and found a retired doctor many states away (colder) with NO common interests, except she was generally smart. She no longer communicates w/me even though she promised, so maybe she's his hostage?
The rest are reporting one-night-stand wannabees, some stay longer if sex is served up every following date, until they find someone better.

  • It seems really damn hard to connect online. It can be done because I know people have done it. Any time, I've had a relationship, it seems to always be when I'm not looking.

  • I don't think it's unlikely at all. You might not find the one, but it's not hard to find a basic relationship. Look for people who are interested in you and want a relationship and you will find one. And don't do long distance it doesn't work most of the time.

  • It's not impossible to find a real relationship online. It does take a lot of time though, filtering through all the people until you meet the right person. It'll be hard if they live far away

    • Why is that?

    • Does that mean you're also thinking like that?

    • It means that expectations are the reason for disappointment. I'm not saying it's impossible but highly unlikely, so don't expect too much. As for me, I'm already in a number of communities with plenty of cool people around my age that I can get to know better. Go online looking for friendships first, the ones that stick around are the ones that you should consider talking to more
