What does "Love" mean to you?

I believe that the word "Love" is over used in our society. Don't you? And has been watered down to almost a worthless word to some because they use it to describe how they feel about everything they either hate it whatever it is or "Love" it. Do you belive in true Love?

  • In the case of the general idea of love I would say that you can tell by the person's actions. Also beware of the love at first sight couples. Because yes, a majority part of that is based on lust. If someone "fell in love with someone on first sight" well I call utter bullshit. Because then you would only fall for their physical appearance and not who they are beneath. Cause you have no clue what their personality is like underneath that. And then after that it depends. It's love if this person takes their time out to call you, talk to you and give their attention to you. It's not healthy when they give you all their attention though, that's a warning sign that ( this is not always true but it happens in a lot of cases) they want something. It could be anything at all. It's love when they do the little things and remember things like eg- your favourite flowers are white roses. Those are the ones who love you. The ones who remember the minor details. That's very important. When they tell you that they love you and look like they couldn't be happier. When they don't talk about any other person in general as a future love interest ( to others, obviously not you) and definitely want a future with you and will do whatever it takes to ensure that. It comes in so many forms. But the one that you're talking about is truly rare and extraordinary. So, if you find it, then treasure it with every bone of your heart. Cause you won't get that kind of love, especially the romantic kind easily.

What Girls Said 17

  • I don't believe true love exist.
Love is something beautiful. It means that you care about someone so much that you would die for them.
It means that you care about someone so deeply, you can't stand the thought of them being hurt
And when they are hurt, you do everything in your power to make them feel okay again
Love is never leaving that special someone alone, even during the hard times
You accept every single part of them, the good and the bad, until the end of your days
Love is vowing to always stand by that person's side and remain loyal to them through thick and through thin
Love is feeling something so strongly for someone that it hurts you physically and mentally and spiritually but in a good way
Love is feeling the compulsion to wrap that person in your arms and never let go
Feeling that you want to kiss them deeply and with passion
Feeling that you want to hug them in front of the whole world
    And so you
Love is feeling that if someone hurts your significant other, you will personally make sure they never do it again
Love is wanting to see that other person happy but still allowing them to feel sad, angry, or scared
Love is always being that shoulder they need/want to lean on
Love is something magical and beautiful and in the world we live in
    It simply doesn't exist

  • I believe that most love today is too carelessly mistaken and thats why there's so many divorces in todays day...

I believe that love is real though... Make fun of me if you will,
but... Love is someone who makes you a better person and themselves as well. To be able to care for someone even when they do something stupid... (not to be confused with blindness)
I may find it, and i may not...

I dont choose to force it though so i won't be lonely/... (like most couples)

  • No, I think using the word love is a lot better then using other words. I would rather hear love being spread around than hate... Love can mean a lot of things. I mean for me it mean that I feel for something with my heart. Or really really like it. Lol Love is not a worthless word we use the word to give something meaning, to describe something no other word can.

  • I agree with you in part i dont have a problem with it being overused i have a problem with no one understanding the real meaning behind it tho. But its hard for people to know what it means without being raised to understand it. Love means truthful, loyal, respectful understanding devotion for another for me. Its not just something that happens and happily ever after its i love you and i will work hard to maintain it forever.

  • Love has been watered down for sure. Its be commercialised. Best way I know to describe love is the term "Ya'aburnee" - its an Arabic term which means “You bury me,” used as a declaration of one’s hope that they’ll die before another person because of how difficult it would be to live without them. Yes I believe in true love but you might not get it in this life!

  • I think that there are varying degrees of love. You can love your friends and it gives you a protective feeling, or you can love an idol or band and you just get so excited, your heart wants to jump out of its chest. However, I think romantic love, ‘true love’, feels different. Almost like a constant ache in your chest (not bad necessarily) and I don’t think that love at first sight is true. I think romantic love takes time, and the time put into to cultivating that love, is what gives it that special feeling. I don’t think love is overused, because there are many kinds of love, I think it just depends on what feeling is put into saying it, or showing it.

  • Love is a feeling to describe someone that even if this person had absolutely nothing to give you, you can't live your life without them. You want the best for them, and you will do what you can to make it happen. You would do anything to protect them, and be there for them in their darkest hours and you know all that fairy tail stuff. But most importantly, love is something that takes effort from all participants, and it takes time to nourish. However, today, a lot of people have been using the word love for nothing more than physical attraction, which is something very shallow.

  • Love means being there for someone when no one else will. Love means being unconditional to the one who has no one in a dark day. That in my opinion is real love.

  • A lot of people use “I love you” as soon as they start dating a person, I’m not saying it’s wrong but how do you know you love them when you’ve only just started dating? it seems more like infatuation to me than love. To me love means trust, stability, saying I love you should be to someone who you trust, feel comfortable being yourself around, someone you feel stable with, someone you know you would do anything for and think they’d do in return, someone you can rely on and will always be there for you. The word love shouldn’t be something you just say for the sake of saying, it should have meaning and a lot of people have taken the meaning out of the word. It is disappointing.

  • No matter how good or bad something may be with the "thing" that is loved, there will still be a thriving passion for it. It is an overused word because people say they "love" something only when it is good.

  • Love is the absence of hatred.

Further, I will say "love" cannot exist without patience and trust, trust can't exist without honesty.

What it all boils down to, is that honesty is the root in everything. From there, you may trust people enough that you open up to them so much, that no one else has seen you so open and transparent. That's also when you're more vulnerable, but you trust that person. Then if you also have patience, then you can truly say that you love them.

  • Love is a choose... if you “love” someone, your not really in love until you hit that point that you have a quick thought or feeling that you want to be with someone else.. but then realize you still want to be with that person and make it work.. that’s love!

  • It's similar to the word "like". To the point where you have to say do you "like like" someone. It's up to the speaker how much they value the word love. Language is malleable. It can bend and flex to fit many situations.

  • Love is when you can't stop thinking about someone. And when you can't see anything wrong with that person. It's hard to think clearly. True love I believe can happen but only for a few lucky ones

  • There should realistically be about 20 different words that should replace "love" as a word. Because there at least that many different and distinct kinds of love. I love my daughter different than I love my wife, I would love to win the lottery and that's different than I am gonna make some good love to you tonight honey... I love my bros, a whole lot different than I love my mom.

Of course, I believe in true love... Just can't expect that love to last forever. People change, they run out of f&#*s to give, they upgrade, lie, and lose patience. So don't let yourself go, and don't get complacent.

When it comes down to it, people can only experience 2 emotions. Every emotion that could be called something else is really just a sub genre of fear or love.

  • True love is the total devotion to each partner. Your duty is your partner's well being. Whatever the circumstance, you exist to make them happy.

To broaden your question, marriage isn't the same as it once was. Because maybe people are currently in a 'lustful' relationship that was based on lust.

Think about it. Two partners, physical attraction most important and everything else second. Two partners age on, their bodies change, or become bored with each other. When there is no/much less physical attraction then their marriage may fall apart.

A marriage based on true love will always last longer a marriage of lust.

  • Love is not outside. Love happens within us. Love is just a pleasantness of our emotions. When our emotions becomes happy or pleasant we call it as a love. Now we are saying that I love somebody is because we are just using others as a key to unlock the love within us. But actually we don't need a key to unlock the love within us because there is no lock. Love happens within us. If our emotions is happy, joyful and pleasant "Love" is everywhere. We don't have to search outside for love, Love is within us.
