Because baby humans are born helpless and need a tremendous amount of care. Even into childhood, humans need lots of help and watching. A man who's good at caring for children is a man whose children are likely to survive, making him genetically a more fit partner to mate with. It's really pretty simple, on an animalistic level.

Provs a biological thing. A man being good with kids might trigger something within a woman, on how the man might be a god potential partner. A man who shows that he will be a compassionate, sweet father might make a woman more likely to desire him.
