Boyfriend said thanks lol after I said I love him?

So I’m confused. We have been together for 18 months. I told him I love him and he replied with thanks lol. When I asked him how does he feel he replied when I’m comfortable saying it I will say it.

Ummm what? It’s been a year and a half of a relationship and he’s not comfortable saying he loves me. I’m guessing this means he doesn’t? Please help how do I interpret this?

I think he loves you but he's not ready to say it.
It could be past experiences going wrong, or very wrong so he's wary.
Chances are that he really does love you because he said WHEN, WHEN I AM READY TO SAY IT, if he did not loved you he could been more awkward and even scared could have run away, maybe he really loves you a lot and he perceives this as a risk... and it's about his uncertaintities, not about you exactly.
So maybe you just keep saying it "I love you even if you're not ready to say it yet"

I stayed with her for many years, but the fact that they don't feel that love for you easily can probably mean that it will be a one-sided relationship.
