At what point does the creepy age calculation stop working?

Anonymous
In college, we had a "creepy age" calculation. You took the older person's age, divided it by 2 and added 9. This was the minimum age of a younger person they might be romantically interested in. So, if you were 24, you could date someone who was 21 or someone who was 30. Outside that range would be creepy. But inside was fair game.

At a certain point, though, you have to think that adults are adults and the difference between someone in their, say mid or late 20's isn't that much different than someone much older. Does the rule still apply?

Sorry, I see these questions all the time and wanted to bring math into it.
