We see a janitor cleaning up a mess in the bathroom. High school dropout.

We see a fast food worker at McDonald’s. Didn’t get into college.

We see a garbageman collect our trash. Didn’t work hard enough in school.

We judge these people harshly and unkindly.

Worst of all, we tell children not to be like those people, and that they are failures. Stay in school, kids, or else— is the message we tell the young.

But can I just ask-

What would we do without the janitor, who cleans up the cup of coffee you dropped in the hall?

What would we do without the fast food worker at McDonald’s who slaves over your Big Mac and large fries?

What would we do without the garbageman, who cleans up after your mess every week?

So these people don’t work hard? They work just as hard as you.

They’re not useless careers. In fact, they’re probably doing more work for society right now than you are

We need these people in our lives. Everyone plays an important part in the world, and their career must be respected.

Treat a janitor with the same respect as a CEO.
