Should I take the ACT, SAT, or both?

Most colleges don’t have a preference, but it’s probably better if you take the SAT if you’re planning on only taking one or the other. Personally, I took my ACT my sophomore year and made a 30 on it, and then I took my SAT this year and made a 1450 on it. I prepared for them both about the same amount, but I did slightly better on my SAT and honestly I found it to be a lot easier. The ACT’s math is more pre-calc stuff most kids don’t do until their senior year of high school. Meanwhile, the SAT seemed to be a lot of basic, middle school algebra and geometry, with a couple of problems where you just had to know how to read a graph to get the right answer. As for the other sections, they were pretty much the same in terms of difficulty. But yeah, overall, I felt better about my SAT when I took it, and I ended up doing better on my SAT.

Colleges don't care about them anymore unless you are trying to get into harvard or yale or something

That is a good question, and it depends entirely on what universities you are planning to apply to.

The SAT is preferred for national universities, like MIT, University of Chicago, and Stanford.

The ACT seems to be most common for regional universities, mostly in the south, like Murray State, and Arkansas State.

Most schools accept either.

I thought the ACT was really easy but some people say it's hard so I'd take both and if you're not satisfied with your scores you can take whichever 1 you found easier again

I only took the SAT, which ended up being useless since I did my first two years at Community College and then transferred over. They only cared about my GPA and neither the SAT nor the ACT was even required.

Take both. The cost is nominal and you might do better in one or the other and colleges will accept either.
