Would you rather have a boss you like who's incompetent at their job, or a boss you dislike who's great at their job and helps the company flourish?

I suppose it would depend on how much my boss's competence at their own job and the success of the company affected me or my work personally.

I want the company to be successful enough to be able to afford to keep me employed, but since it's not my company I don't give a damn how successful it is beyond that.

Also, I don't care how competent my boss is at their own job as long as it doesn't make my job harder or require me to pick up the slack. In my line of work, my boss would most likely be an Art Director, so if they were incompetent, it would just mean that my directions would be unclear and I'd have to figure things out on my own more, and if I got something wrong, I would just have to do it again, but I'd still work the same hours and get paid the same, it would just slow the production of the game and my boss would be held responsible, not me.

So yeah, if their level of competence wouldn't affect me anyway, I may as well take the nicer boss that I got along with better.

That said, I know this is meant to be an allegory for Biden and Trump (or maybe Obama vs Trump vs Biden/Harris?). But it's a flawed metaphor because a) The president's competency affects everyone, whereas a boss's competency at your job doesn't necessarily affect you, and b) the difference between Biden and Trump isn't that Biden is nice, but incompetent, while Trump is mean, but competent--it's that they each represent completely different and incompatible fundamental values.

So knowing what it's all supposed to represent, I'd vote D (anarchy) if it were an option, but B (Trump) as my second choice.

I'll take the charismatic boss over a terrible boss who knows the job any day of the week. Over time, a person can be trained to be more efficient at their job. Also, in an effective company, the employees know their jobs and the boss does not matter that much. A boss's job is to keep morale up and ensure the mission gets done, not to dictate every little thing. Also, often times, employees know the job better than the bosses anyways. You CANNOT train a boss to have a better personality and a terrible boss will drive away good workers because, at the end of the day, workers do not give a damn about the company if the boss is an ass and gives the workers table scraps for their efforts.

The only reason I would dislike my boss is if he steals from the company, myself or my colleagues. He can sleep with the secretary, promote her, talk to me like shit, help the company flourish, but if he’s up to no good, and benefiting off of that.. I voted E. What’s scary is having an intelligent person with evil in his heart. I’d rather have some young dude new to the business so he can learn and grow and hope he doesn’t turn out that way too.

The employees are the real managers of most companies anyway. So having someone lead by being someone you would hate to disappoint to me is a better fit. A lot of managers are in their positions to manage, they're not really there to do the same job that you're doing anyway. They are there to take your holiday requests, send your reports to, and talk to if you're having concerns on the job. In most cases, these people were too far removed from the job I was doing, but they at least were good at handling people.

For the long term, the competent one is more important because I don't want the company to go under after I've committed years to it.

A boss I dislike who is good at his job. I like to work with people who know what they're doing, and it doesn't matter if I dislike him, I don't need him to be my friend. We can have a strictly professional relationship.
