How do you control your temper / irritability at work?

I’m not the one to answer lol I literally almost punched this girl in the face at my job. Like bitch I’m from Jersey/NYC state line don’t you ever approach me how you did today. It was crazy the girl took my designated parking space and then she tried to argue with me. She felt I had a prime space and was mad it was assigned to me by my boss who is the company supervisor. I could care less where it is just y’all get pissy about spaces and that’s what was assigned to me and I don’t wanna mess up the dynamics of the lot. Mind you I would’ve let it go if she didn’t try to argue with me and continue to arguing after she was notified to never park there again. Her senior coworker doesn’t like me and we always have like a phone friction. I try to remind myself it’s temporary I don’t go home with these people, they’re not my friends, I just do my job to the best of my capabilities. I’m super catty and condescending when I talk to coworkers I don’t like, that’s how I even the score without actually hitting anyone or anything. Now I make sure to eat, have my tea, and practice yoga and mindfulness before and after work.

Fortunately I've never been too angry at work to productively deal with it.

I've only had a few instances, and in those cases I've removed myself from the situation and gone for a walk to process. After a walk around a few city blocks, I'll usually have calmed down enough to at least have a serious sit down with whoever I need to.

For me, it's about optics and perception. It doesn't do to be known as the crazy lady who gets angry at work, it often alienates and drives a wedge. Makes it harder to do a good job or gain influence and favour.

But if I go and process my anger/irritation/emotion, I can come back and ask for or give useful feedback.

When I struggled with a boss cutting me out of the communication loop and all around making me sit around and do nothing while still billing our client for my hours, I tried to communicate with her directly. When that didn't work, I knew it wouldn't do to get angry or irritated, so I escalated to her assistant and then to her boss - I kept emotions out of it and expressed concern that while I was being made to charge our client for my time, we were providing no value to them in return.

I made it a business transaction. Because it's work - it's all just business transactions.

End result, I was reassigned to a much better project and a much better project manager. I also gained the respect of management for being so cool and logical about the business end, and ended up being nominated to run the young professional association within the company.

Keeping your cool has more benefits than showing your temper. That said, never underestimate the power of a tense sigh, a pinched nose bridge, and a calculated bit of honesty with the right person over a coffee.

The trick is finding out who at work deserves to know the truth of how you feel, and who can help you fix those problems.

I just remind myself that I'm paid to do whatever irritates me and I get over it. But my irritation at work mostly comes from the people around me. I work with furniture and most of the time I work with upholstery, but before a sofa for example comes on my spot, someone must make the wooden framework, wrap it up in some cloth, put sponges on it. My job is also to look out what the others do as well and correct them if needed, or tell them what to do when they finish one thing. Lucky me, I get irritated all the time. Someone screws up inevitably, and at first I was letting my emotions free and sometimes even raised my voice as needed, but I have since learned that even though It's my job to look at what they are doing, they are ultimately responsible for whatever they screw up, so now, most of the time I will just remind the person that it's their fault and they should do their best to fix it. I had to change my behaviour because "I was harsh". I take responsibility for what I do, and sometimes assume responsibilty I really don't need, and I wan't everyone to be like me. I really hate when someone tries to send a defective product, or tries to blame someone else.

It depends. Usually I'll take a deep breath to calm myself down and then try to come up with a solution.

Preferably one where I bypass all the people / things that are pissing me off. My second choice usually ends up being that I try to very nicely explain to the dick head to stop being one.

Option 3 is a little more extreme, cuz now I'm going from being nice to being direct, being careful not to raise my voice at all.

I don't like being aggressive because it unleashes a side of me that really isn't healthy and is kinda mean. I think conflict is ugly and troublesome. But I sure do love the feeling of winning it lol. And it gets things done usually and more times then not, when people see that I'm not one to hold a grudge they get over it.

I talk to the people who try to piss me off and warn them I'll make coming to work hell for them if they cross me. Even bosses are not exempt from this. Then again the only thing that pisses me off at work is people who do not get the job done. The first thing I do at any new workplace is learn any secrets and strategies I can use to get my way. I do not just blindly let people do whatever they wish, including bosses. I do not trust anyone enough to give them that power over me. 2 bosses in the past tried to cross me and I ensured both of them lost their jobs.

I carry a weapon everywhere I allowed to by law. (Not at work) Because I have potentially deadly force on me much of the time, I have learned to laugh off most of the stupid things people do. It's simply not worth it. My diplomacy, de-escalation, and communication skills have increased to the point I rarely get pissed about anything.

On the rare occasion it does happen, I go to an empty room and formulate a plan to correct myself or the situation.

I don’t have a temper, I just let things wash over me. Especially trivial shit. Sometimes it helps to feel pity for those who try to rile you with their backhanded commends and snide remarks and small-minded desperate attempts to fuck with your mind. Fuck ‘em Lindsay, just fuck ‘em.

I take my time when it’s time to deal with people. When they need help I tell them “one moment please” or “someone will right with you” then take a few seconds to prepare myself to deal with them. If I get a call and I’m the only one there and not in a good mood, I answer then say please hold. I take a few seconds then continue to deal with them.

Take 2 capsules of turmeric for work and then have some chocolate and take that about mid shift but it depends what kind of job you got so I also recommend eating something by mid shift to I get a little hangry a little bit if I had something to eat I'm alright

honestly it’s hard to control my irritability shows on my face even tho we wear masks my eyes tell it all🤣 but i try to handle it professionally bc im a manager in training but if something bothers me that much i usually have one of my coworkers or my higher ups deal with the situation cuz ik my temper and i can go 0-100 within a matter of seconds😭

As a professional! I always speak my mind, other wise it would be a nightmare to work with people that makes feel this way. Speak up! Talk about what makes you feel this way and find a solutions for both sides, yes! It works. After a while you will see things will change.

I'm slightly psychopathic, it's easy to me being stoic and unapproachable for emotional manipulation of others or psychical pressure of a group.
This very useful for working place, with a little bit competency in task I'm doing and verbal convincing skill, employers call it professionalism. However it's just mental disorder.
