What are some tips for passing my Spanish class?

I'm Spanish 112 and I can't get the hang of studying another language. I've tried Spanishdict. com but nothing works. What are some websites or things I can use?

You have to practice.
I was in the military.
4 months, 8 hours a day.
Spanish TV channels every night.
Going to mexican restaurants and ordering.
Speaking with Spanish speakers as often as I could.
After 4 months I was coordinating with embassy personnel in Peru and conducting training out in the jungle. In another 6 months on a separate trip I was teaching a class by myself.
Granted, my paycheck was tied to my skill level. I just made it important enough to have to do it.

I know that this is a long shot, but having a friend that knows fluent Spanish can do wonders.
