Does anyone else feel like they can't ever be satisfied?

Question

I'm an overly ambitious person and have always strived to achieve success. This is a big reason of why I'm part of the FIRE movement. Most people would believe that I've accomplished way too much for my age. However, I feel like it's not enough and don't think it will ever be enough. It's come to the point that my next goal of reaching 7 figures still wouldn't satisfy me.

I got that more when I was your age. It is like you set a goal and even achieve it with flying colors and realize there's no pot at the end of the rainbow... the happiness was in the struggle -- the pursuit. I found marriage when I was sorta 30 taming my ambitions, but in ways that I'm not sure I'm happy about. Yet I just stopped caring that much.

Yes!! That's exactly it. Reaching the end goal doesn't feel satisfying. I just set myself up with a new goal and try to achieve that. I know the pursuit is what I believe is what makes it "fun" but now I question if there's ever an end. By nature I'll always want to keep achieving my goals and continuously reset them.

I figure it's the journey that was supposed to be the fun part -- not reaching the destination. Like asking a girl out should be fun even if she says "no". Working out should be fun regardless of whether we reach our ideal body. Studying should be fun. And work, in general, should be fun. I think it is good to stay ambitious though. I never managed it -- balance was always the tough part for me. Becoming a workaholic was easy. Becoming a lazy ass for a while was easy. The balance is tough if you're like me.
