Did anybody else here grow up having a hard time making friends in High School? Has society gotten worse with time or is it about the same as before?

It was always difficult for me.

I didn’t play any sports and I wasn’t involved with any clubs.

Just about nothing the school had to offer ever caught my interest.

I was always insecure about something as well. I never quite understood how all the assholes ended up getting all the girls.

It just never seemed fair to me. I always considered myself a nice person with good intentions. I never tried taking advantage of anybody like so many others.

But nobody ever seemed to recognize that. The genuine friendship I had to offer.

I’m hoping that people change in the future but it seems as though the millenials that raised them usually aren’t much better than that themselves.

So the standard they will eventually live up to doesn’t seem that much far off.

Its tough living in a deteriorating society.

Things were so much better when my Grandfather was growing up.

Family units were more intact and people were far more civil and hardworking.

In high school I had difficulty making new friends but was extremely close to the old friends I had from earlier times and we had the most amazing and loving relationships and spent blissful hours together each week doing super fun activities and I believe we mutually helped each other survive our difficulties and become good people but I was a social outcast and shunned by most people because my shyness made popular people want to bully me.

Now I am less shy and do not have close friends that I am emotionally close to but I am confident and am able to talk to almost anybody but I do not have access to a lot of people because I try too hard to keep a low profile which minimizes my communication opportunities.

I don't think so first day broke a chair on the kid infront of me and had a fight with the one next to me.

Next day the three of us became best buddies.

Then even more fighting trough the years. Became a Legend lmao. They still talk in that school about my mischief and fights.

In reality i had anger issues but i went with the flow.

But thanks to that this days i can keep it under check.

Ain’t it crazy how you end up becoming friends with people you got into fights with. I still have close friends from HS and we got to be friends from slugging it out.

It’s like, once that happens you can actually respect each other... but only if it was a pretty even fight.

Indeed it's a crazy thing.

But as you say respect has a big part in it. I can't respect a person i haven't acknowledged and with exchanging fists you can understand the other person.

But that was in school. This days that thing doesn't work anymore.

For me now respect has to be earned in other ways and fighting is the wrong choice as it shows weakness of the mindset as a grown up.

The friends around me are people who achieved the right to sit at my table.

And those slugging friends i hardly get in touch with as they did go down that path I can't follow.

Well, yeah. These days meaning as adults you go to jail instead of detention and probably get sued for fighting. As a result I haven’t been in a fight for many years.

I had a rather easy time making friends in high-school that. I seem to have been almost all around well liked. I had a group of friends that I fitted in with pretty well and I got along with other friend groups.

I had associates in high school. I've never been tge type to be friendly. Friends don't mean much to me.

I did a little, but only because I’ve always done my own thing. I don’t follow trends or care about pop culture. I can’t be entertained by superficially and it seems like most people are, so it made it difficult to find common ground.
