They have made it mandatory to switch on our camera. Does taping my camera with a black tape works? like it will show a black screen when i turned on my camera and from there i act like i don't know whats wrong with it? or is it that they are able to tell that i cover my camera?
Just cover your camera or going forward get a separate camera that plugs in. That camera can then face the wall or a picture or whatever. If you obey the letter of the law... to have your camera on... sure do it byt put tape over it. You still have your camera on. Don't lie though. If they ask, simply say my camera is on and leave it at that.
but would the professor knows that we are covering using something?
Perhaps but it doesn't matter.
but won't the professor knows that? that we are covering using something?
If you cover it properly, the video will be entirely black, so there wouldn't be a way to distinguish it from like an incorrect setting or a driver error. It works on my relatives, lol.But yeah, it would probably come down to how good you are at lying!
okay so how do I do it? firstly I cover my camera with a black tape, then afterwards I pressed the video button to switch it on to show my Professors that I did try to switch on the video. Then afterwards I explained (while the video is still on) that something is wrong with my camera caused only a black screen is shown?
Yeah, but check out how your video looks first, should be all black. And I guess just keep the black camera on the whole time, could look sus if you turn your video off.
But if you are on a laptop and aren't using a plug-in microphone, don't forget that the holes next to the camera are often the microphone.Don't tape over those if there are any, lol.
hmm but the other user said otherwise though. She said the Professor is able to tell
Naah, I don't think there is any way to tell. But if in doubt, telling you are feeling sick as they have suggested would probably work. It's not like your professors need to see your face no?
hmm, cause i'm having a Zoom meeting with 5 other professors and admin staffs due to some issue. I feel like I will have difficulty explaining and defending myself if I show my face, like I would get nervous/anxious. What do you think honestly?
Can't help with that one.Pretend they are all Patrick Star in your head to feel better about confronting them?

i mean like the professor knows i am at home... hence what valid excuses I could use from home?
I understand what you said. Does the professor know that your home is not a brothel? Not that you are participating. I mean that you are the Manager.

Ofcourse they can tell you covered the camera. Why is it sucha big deal that you can't tell your professor you can't turn it on for this one day?
