@GermanGuy87 yes I considered being a pilot but I was a piss poor student but was very mechanically gifted so that’s how it played out. I did my dream job for my dream company without having a GED
cool. I'm trying to become a pilot and I am finding it difficult. I have over 400 hours of flight time and unfortunately failed my Instrument check-ride last week. I have to go back and finish it up on Monday. I hope I get it done and am able to eventually become a commercial pilot.
@GermanGuy87 everyone dreams of being a pilot but all pieces must fit to become one just like anything else. My pieces didn’t fit for a pilot but they did for an aircraft mechanic. I wouldn’t trade my career to be a pilot ever
yeah I agree. I think its definitely harder for some people like me. I have heard of people getting all their ratings in like 12 months, for me its like I get a new rating once every year. Its a slower process but I think I will get there. I never was mechanically gifted but I have seen planes in the hanger being worked on and it seems interesting.
@GermanGuy87 don’t limit yourself. There’s all kinds of careers in aviation. There’s marketing, buying/selling, parts and parts procurement you name it. You’re obviously an aviation industry natural. Let your natural skills direct you to it. What comes natural and what your heart or brain wants can be different things
@GermanGuy87 something else is look at smaller but essential flying jobs. For example a bush plane is down in Alaska and you had to fly me in with my tools and part in your Super Cub with tundra tires. I’d fly with you. That’s flying to me not scheduled airline stuff
yeah, that sounds fun. I'm not sure if I'll ever make the airlines but just flying in general is fun and I'd be happy with flying private or off the grid somewhere remote.
Well that's gratitude for you after we saved the UK's ass in WWII by the lend/lease, sending war materials, planes, tanks, and going in dutch for the D Day invasion. Had the US not joined the war you would be speaking German as you almost lost the Battle of Britain.
Well we kicked the British ass in 1776 and they lost a lot of other colonies too. So don't throw stones as it might break something. The British seem to think that they could have won the war by themselves, I remember there being lots of convoys of war supplies from the US to Britain. How soon they forget.

Something in the aviation industry and I became an aircraft mechanic
nice, did you consider being a pilot? or do you just like working on planes more?

Don’t forget all kinds of careers in the FAA and that can include airport management
You can also work for a company like Gulfstream Aerospace or Boeing. You could work for Pratt and Whitney. It’s all aviation
