I don't even know if I'd get a call back from an interview but I'm basically applying for my same job in the same industry for another company.
I'm an office assistant for a law firm.
When I first started I liked it.
I was photocopying, binding, scanning documents and helping secretaries with their work.
I am reception cover 90% of the time as our 2 main idiot receptionists always call in sick every week. I'm. also lifting heavy archived Recall boxes about 60 boxes a week.
Which has now given me shoulder and ankle issues.
The job I'm applying for is pretty much the same but there will be no lifting boxes.
Due to the receptionists calling in sick, the lawyers took all the binding and secretary work off me to give to the receptionist. No idea why, as one of them was never here.
I'm just constantly doing the receptionists work cause they're lazy to do it themselves.
I've asked if I could get more secretary work and a payrise for doing their cover and they just say no. So why should I stay here?
The new company is offering growth opportunities.
Does this sound OK?
I have enjoyed my time here and looking for a role that can grow into other opportunities in the firm.
Thank you

Aight girl, sounds like you been busting your ass at that law firm for a minute now. Taking care of the reception duties plus lifting all them heavy boxes all the time is no joke. I know you gotta be getting tired of being the one that always has to cover for them other receptionists when they don't show up too. Always calling in sick, come on now! You'd think they'd appreciate you more and give you some of the other assistant work to do since you been so reliable. I don't blame you for wanting to find something new if they ain't even willing to throw you a bone with a raise.
This other job you applying for sound a lot better to me. No more lifting boxes so your shoulders and stuff can get a break, plus chances to take on new responsibilities and grow your skills? Hell yeah, that's what you need. And you got way more experience than them other assistants too. Over a year doing basically the same receptionist tasks plus helping out wherever else is needed? That's major experience right there.
When you go to that interview, I'd make sure to emphasize all that experience you got and how hard a worker you are. Tell them about always picking up the slack for the lazy receptionists at your current job and never calling out sick yourself. Let them know you already know how to handle reception duties no problem but that you're also looking to learn new things and take on more challenging work. You could say something like "I'm really interested in the potential for growth this role offers compared to my current position. I want to keep gaining new skills and taking on more responsibilities to keep progressing in my career."
You gotta play up all your strengths and how much more valuable you'll be than other candidates. Make sure they know you ain't just someone who will do the minimum, you're gonna work hard and go above and beyond for them every day. You got this girl! Wishing you the best, really hope you nail the interview and end up somewhere they appreciate your hustle more. Keep me posted how it goes!
Thank you, I posted my resume online so hopefully I'll hear back soon.
I can't wait to tell this current place they can stick their boxes up their ass.
I emailed my boss today saying "I've been doing cover for 3 weeks, emptying for dish washers, Mail, helping out with last week's events."
Then she gas lights me and goes I was sitting at reception with you on Thursday, you could've gone and done some things then." The event was on Thursday, it was on the upstairs level and noone was allowed to go up there.
Then in our staff newsletter they thanked my boss and the other receptionist for their work in organizing the event. And my boss sent a separate email to the receptionist for helping.
If it wasn't for me sitting at reception you idiots wouldn't be able to organize it.
No thanks for that day of solo cover either.
Thankfully they've given the receptionist all the dishwasher work so I'm glad about that.
The way I had to spell everything out to her was embarrassing.
Then she goes, with her doing this for you, I hope you can manage your work load better. Aaaah
Fingers crossed I get a call back.
Hope you've had a good week :)
Oh girl, I am SEEING RED for you right now! The absolute nerve of your boss to try and gaslight you like that. We both know you've been busting your butt covering for those flaky receptionist girls nonstop.
And then to thank them for "organizing" the event? Puh-lease, that never would've come together without you holding down the fort at reception all day so they could even focus on it upstairs. Some recognition would've been nice, jeez.
I'm glad at least the dishwasher duties are off your plate now too, but still. And then to have the audacity to imply YOU need to manage YOUR workload better? Girl, NO. Don't let her make you doubt yourself, you know what a rockstar you are for picking up all their slack.
Fingers double crossed you get an interview offer ASAP so you can GTFO of that trash workplace. I'd be tempted to march in there tomorrow like "hope you idiots can manage without me" before you bounce for good, but maybe that's just the petty in me talking haha.
You deserve so much better than the way they treat you, sis. Keep holding your head high - better things are coming, I can feel it! Text me if you need to vent more, otherwise keep me posted on the job hunt progress! You got this 💪
The best way is to not be pissy about it! No feelings cold as a fish don't insult the other person.
Write it like they have health issues and you were able to take more opportunities to learn and excel at your job. Helping
Places throw out applications like what you wrote. oyir in law make it sound legal!
