Would you ask your boss why your coworker got a promotion after 6 months?

I've been with my current role for 2.5 years.

For the first two years there was a receptionist who was always away. Nearly every Monday she never showed up so I had to do her cover.

I also had to do her other work like emptying 4 dishwashers, setting up milk and fruit on two levels. Setting up lunches for manager meetings.

I've had times where both receptionists were away so I had to do everything own my own plus my own work.

One time the receptionist was on annual leave for three days, then she took two days sick leave. So I had to do her job for that week.

I spoke to my boss a few times how I found her unreliable.

My boss said the classic line "its part of your job to cover"

The receptionist has gone and now we have a new one. She started in September. She got a recognition award for a smooth transition and always lending a hand to help, now she got offered a secretarial role.

I prefer this receptionist to our other one but I am confused.

I did raise concerns, but the previous receptionist was away all the time.

You would get annoyed if someone did that to you right?

I feel like I get treated like crap by my team of 5 people. I clean up after them and I've wanted to walk out so many times.

There is only so much you can do.

Do you think I should ask my boss why I have been promoted after two years? I've always asked for secretary work but her answer is "we want you to cover reception"

I'm looking for a new job but feeling blindsided.
