You are right on the money with most of this. Unfortunately you've dramatically missed the mark with 2 of them, Michael Jackson and Nirvana.
Those are the only 2 true artists on that list; everyone else are imitators. Those are the only 2 mainstream (some of these groups are not mainstream) artists who, to my knowledge, aren't illuminati puppets. Also the reason their frontmen are dead.
But of course you are entitled to your own uninformed opinion.
@myTakeOwner Do you actually think Nirvana thought to themselves how many glam metal bands we can destroy? Dee Snider of Twisted Sister said something to the point that the glam metal scene got to watered down and the bands were sounding too much alike.
@funny_strange_man yeah backing you up on that, man. Nirvana was just the type of band who played music for the sake of playing music and they were damn good at it.
The Pixies i do not like at all. Wham and Celine Dion I like a little. Madonna I mostly like her 80s to mid 90s stuff. The rest I do like. Some songs that I remember by Alice In Chains are Rooster, Dirt, Man In a Box, Would?, Them Bones, Down In a Hole to name a few. Actual there are people like me rber songs by them. I would have put Rhianna, Justin Bieber, all other rap besides the so called gangsta rap, today's country over all, Beyonce to name a few

Im gonna take a wild guess that you are very young, only listen to todays garbage music and think its sooo cool/hip and full of "swagger". Find it a bit odd all these bands are at least 20 years old so you must be a teen?

I like how people make assumptions easily. Here is another post of mine... so figure out:
So you like rock? I like rock too but dont bash some bands that made it, hell without the Beatles a lot of these bands would not even exist. I think anyone who bashes the Beatles and claims to be a rock or legit music fan is just kidding themself.
And the reason why I didn't list recent artists? because I haven't listened to their entire discographies (yet), and I believe it's too early to judge them.
As for Beatles I never said they were trash. I said overrated.
I'm more an AOR/Glam Metal guy when it comes to Rock, with 80s being my favorite decade. Not much of a 60s fan, so that's why I'm not into The Beatles much.
By the time I got to Oasis I was sure this was a joke and at the end the author would have said something to this effect: "Just kidding, if you agree with any of this you know nothing about music or life itself." I was shocked there was no such twist. It's not hard to see why the author chose to post anonymously. They would be harassed for the rest of their lives if their identity was known.
Haha, they actually are one of my favorites. Parr of what makes these bands timeless is their lyrics, not just their sounds. If you haven't, I suggest paying more attention to what these people are saying with their music and you'll probably discover a new appreciation for them.
The only one I really disagree with is The Beatles. They came out with SUCH good music that was extremely diverse and had catchy tunes. They're my favorite band of all time. FIGHT ME.
They're anthems, he reached all the corners of the globe with them. Even my parents who grew up in somalia knew the words to his songs. True king of pop.
I listened to all of them except for abba, wham! talking heads and sting. I don't know if they are indeed overrated or not but I enjoy listening to them

TL:DR You hate music. We get it. But you didn't put the one's who REALLY did not deserve the fame but did it anyway. These are Lady GaGa and Justin Bieber.

Lady GaGa and Justin Bieber are "shit" but Michael Jackson is "King". Nice logic from current youngsters, right?
MJ was the equivalent of JB today. Both extremely promoted products of the music industry.
Beatles and ABBA shouldn't be on the list. But I agree that you put some modern bands on this list. A lot of modern music is overrated and deserves bashing. People nowadays dont know what good music is.
Music now isn't the same music as 10 years ago. Some bands go back 40-50 years. That's older than your parents. It's a bit like saying that an f-4 is overrated based on modern technology. The f-4 when it came out was the deal.

Woah bud, go easy on grunge. Most of the bands I agree with you, but I love grunge. They have done some amazing music- Pearl Jam has some great lyrics, Soundgarden has some of the most unique and complicated music in rock. And geting rid of the hair/glam rock scene of the 80s was no crime.

"And geting rid of the hair/glam rock scene of the 80s was no crime. "
One of the biggest reasons I hate them. In my opinion Glam Metal musicians should have beaten up the Grunge apes that destroyed their careers and kicking them off the spotlight. From talented bands like Europe, White Lion, Cinderella or even the less known Enuff Z'Nuff... we went to shit like Nirvana, Soundgarden and Alice In Chains.
You know, songs don't disappear when new artists become more popular. Any artist who creates anything is buildings off of what previous artists have already done. It's part of the natural cycle of things. I think you're missing the point of music altogether if you don't see this.
@Kappaow Do you understand that those so called Grunge bands like Nirvana, Pearl Jam and Alice In Chains, or those Alternative shit like Radiohead, Oasis, James, etc. who consider themselves Rock were unable to play a guitar solo?
If their sound doesn't appeal to you that's great, you like a different style of music. But if all you are looking for in music is amazing guitar solos my feeling is that you are missing an important aspect of what music is about. I'd be interested in knowing how you feel about artists like David Gilmour and Jimmy Page. Are they overrated, also?
@Kappaow I like Guitar/ Synth/ Sax parts. When all 3 all blend in one, results can be awesome. As for David Gilmour and Jimmy Page... I don't consider them neither overrated nor underrated. But I prefer David Gilmour since I like Pink Floyd more than Led Zeppelin. He had also done some good work as a producer as well. l
Who said they are unable to? Thats just chose not to write their music that way. There are certainly rock bands outside of grunge that dont frequently play solos. And I will agree that Nirvana is overrated, they are far from the best of the grunge bands. Cinderella is pretty good, Europe is alright. But are you trying to say bands like Poison and Def Leppard are better than Soundgarden or Pearl Jam?

From the title, I couldn't take this seriously
Overrated is the #1 hater word, used by people who are too busy being a crab to even tolerate the success of others
That's not to say I don't have those I hate like JB, but saying he's "overrated" is bullshit
Fuck you Nirvana and the Beatles are not overrated!
You know how many bands Nirvana destroyed?
All of them, which is the point.
@JohnGoodMan if this bastard was alive, I would fly to America and beat him up for all those artists he destroyed.
White Lion, Blue Murder, Cinderella, Danger Danger, Kix, Twisted Sisters and soooo many others.

Do you really consider Oasis a good band?
Haha, they actually are one of my favorites. Parr of what makes these bands timeless is their lyrics, not just their sounds. If you haven't, I suggest paying more attention to what these people are saying with their music and you'll probably discover a new appreciation for them.

replace MJ with the beatles then i agree (for the ones I know of). also gtfo for saying MJ was anything less than legendary.
What was so special about his music?
They're anthems, he reached all the corners of the globe with them. Even my parents who grew up in somalia knew the words to his songs. True king of pop.
Personally I find it boring.
That's how I feel about the beatles. But seriously? "They don't really care about us" doesn't light your feelings up at all?
Not at all. To me he wasn't anything special.
Pretty unpopular opinion but ok
I'm not judging, I don't listen to most on the list so... I'm curious what band you like and think maybe are underrated?
Example:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tk3TLys1m9k
The fact that The Beatles (and not Justin Bieber) was listed tells me this person judgement can't be trusted.
I thought the same. I thought at the very least, Nicki Minaj would be on here as well.
@ginny_weasley agreed and totally fan girling over your name by the way!
Thanks!
very subjective clearly. probably you just don't like the type of music so they are overrated in your eyes
I listened to all of them except for abba, wham! talking heads and sting. I don't know if they are indeed overrated or not but I enjoy listening to them
Sting's solo career may have been a little overrated but his work with the police was good
I've only heard of 9 of these groups/artists...
I'm gonna go back to enjoying my '50s music now.
You don't miss anything really.
TL:DR
You hate music.

And where did I say anything about Michael Jackson? Nice generalization but not applicable.
I mentioned him as an example.
By the way there is a part II.
I do not agree with you here but the current youngsters have an awful taste in music.
Indeed.
Oh come on, where is Elvis Presley? Abba was way better than him.
Abba were boring in my opinion. But Elvis was definitely way better than The Beatles or the so-called "King of Pop". That's why I don't include him.
Meh, I like Abba better than Elvis or the Beatles, or Michael Jackson.
Oh God, ABBA. Could've done without WHAM, too, and I never got David Bowie.
A few of the others, though... really? :P
Wham is best
@Happy_Troll Wham is ok
Beatles and ABBA shouldn't be on the list. But I agree that you put some modern bands on this list. A lot of modern music is overrated and deserves bashing. People nowadays dont know what good music is.

Yes, especially Def Leppard. Def Leppard members' farts have more talent than Pearl Jam themselves.
You obviously don't know good music, when you hear it.
