Hello everyone! I have decided to start doing a weekly MyTake on a particular genre of music. I'm sure most of you are tired of all the sexual, political, and social bs that we seem to see on G@G all the time. Well I'm here to help you escape from all of that with some music! I hope that I will help you discover music you haven't even dreamed of, or maybe you have and just couldn't find what you were looking for! In the end I just want to help you guys unwind and listen to some (potentially) good music! I'm sure not all of the music I post about will be liked by everyone, some may be liked more than others and that's just fine. :) In this first of many MyTakes I will be talking about synthwave! What is synthwave, you might ask. Synthwave is an electronic music microgenre that is based predominately on the music associated with action, science-fiction, and horror film soundtracks of the 1980s. Synthwave musicians often espouse nostalgia for 1980s culture and attempt to capture the era's atmosphere and celebrate it. The genre developed in the mid-to late 2000s through French house producers, as well as younger artists who were inspired by the 2002 video game Grand Theft Auto: Vice City. Another huge influence on synthwave is the 2011 movie Drive.

There are quite a few synthwave remixes of popular songs. I honestly enjoy them more than the original songs. Did you think Blinding Lights already sounded like an 80s song? Well check out the first video! ;)
There is a darker side of synthwave, called darksynth. To me it sounds like these songs would be fitting in an 80s sci-fi or horror film.
