  • In a good way or a bad way?

I guess that I'll choose several.

"And no one was going to come and get me. There wasn't anybody gonna know. Even though I leave a trail of burnt things in my wake, every single place I go."

That's from the song "In Corolla" by The Mountain Goats. It's about a dude who drowns himself because he has a mental illness, gets treated badly by everyone, including his girlfriend, and just can't take it anymore.

"The Micheal Jordan of Drunk Driving played his final game tonight, and burdened by his loneliness he wanted to feel alive. His laziness built the pyramids and his solitude was a knife. The Micheal Jordan of Drunk Driving played his final game tonight."

This song, The Micheal Jordan of Drunk Driving, is the first on the album "Knife Man" by Andrew Jackson Jihad. It foreshadows the rest of the album: A man whose life slowly spirals downwards, as he loses his already shitty job, comes home to find someone he cared about raped and murdered, ends up in a somewhat toxic long distance relationship, becomes addicted to alcohol, starts to hate pretty much everything, including himself, loses pretty much everyone he ever cared about, gets addicted to antidepressants and pornography, starts realizing that there are people who seemingly have it good, that are actually going through a lot of pain and suffering, ends up losing his motivation to do anything, becomes homeless and scared of everything, and finally, depending on your interpretation, he either kills himself with a knife, crashes his car while drunk driving, or actually gets his life back together.

"But oh God, did he scare me when he closed up inside, and he'd sit there for hours like his whole world had died: silent and breathless like he'd punctured his lungs until his mouth became his quiver and his sword became his tounge, and then I became his target. And his anger wouldn't melt and no poem ever written can describe how that felt."

That's from the song "Exalted Rose" by Mark Germino. It's about a women whose husband slowly descends into anger and resentment, but over what is not specified.

"I saw him one night on the outside of town, where the windmills don't run 'cause the wind blew 'em down. He was searching for truth, 'cause there was nothing else left. He was caught in the act of being himself."

I'm not really sure what this song is about.

  • "I've seen a rich man beg
I've seen a good man sin
I've seen a tough man cry

    I've seen a loser win
    And a sad man grin
I heard an honest man lie"

I love this because no matter who we think we are, who people are... there's always two sides. So before we judge someone... do we think that meth head is proud of himself? Given the same path his life took would we be able to make the right decision? it's not always as black white as the "just say no" slogan.

  • Oh, this is such a good question! I love it :) Okay, hang on. I'll think of one that REALLY gets to me...

    My line is:
"A Hydro-field cuts through my neighborhood
Somehow that always just made me feel good
I can put a spare bulb in my hand
    And light up my yard"

The song is called "Light up my room" by the barenaked ladies.
    Song lyrics:

A Hydro-field cuts through my neighborhood
Somehow that always just made me feel good
I can put a spare bulb in my hand
    And light up my yard

Late at night when the wires in the walls
Sing in tune with the din of the falls
I'm conducting it all while I sleep
    To light this whole town

If you question what I would do
To get over and be with you
    Lift you up over everything
    To light up my room

There's a shopping cart in the ravine
The foam on the creek is like pop and ice cream
A field full of tires that is always on fire
    To light my way home

There are luxuries we can't afford
But in our house we never get bored
We can dance to the radio station
    That plays in our teeth

If you question what I would do
To get over and be with you
    Lift you up over everything
    To light up my room

A Hydro-field cuts through my neighborhood
Somehow that always just made me feel good
I can put a spare bulb in my hand
    And light up my yard

    Light up my yard
    Lights in my yard
    Light up my yard

Song meaning: This was based on a news report about people living in a town with a hydrofield running through it that was negatively affecting their health. They were told that they should move b/c the hydrofield was bad for them, but they chose to stay anyway b/c that was their home.
So to me, whenever I hear this line from this song, I think about what it really means to have a home and what family really means. It reminds me how lucky I am.

  • "Well I'm back na na na na na na na na na na, fix your bent antennae tune it in and then I'm gonna, enter in up under your skin like a splinter, the center of attention, back for the winter"

    Name that tune!

  • And in the end,
    The love you take
    Is equal to
    The love you make.

    • Last line of the last song of the last album the Beatles ever released. And a very appropriate line for them.

i try to forget the fact that, if you let the vinyl continue to play, after about 30 seconds Paul McCarntney comes on with this "throwaway" brief few seconds of "Her Majesty". I always tell myself that's not the Beatles - the Beatles walked out of the studio with the last line of "The End".

  • Not really one line, but:
    excerpt from Megadeth's "Endgame"
"The Ex-President signed a secret bill that can
Land a legal US Citizen in jail and the
Patriot act stripped away our constitutional rights
They say a Concentration camp just popped up, yeah, right!

Refuse the chip? Ha! Get persecute and beat by the
Tyranny of Mind control, for the mark of the beast
All rights removed, you're punished captured, and enslaved
Believe me when I say, "This IS the Endgame!""

Gives me the chills every time in the song when he says "This IS the Endgame!"
It's about the New World Order basically.

  • I love this question so much! I wonder how I've never asked it before myself.

Anyway, there are too many lines from songs that get me, but these few lines just keep popping in my mind so I'm going to write them. They perfectly describe me:

I want to live where soul meets body
And let the sun wrap its arms around me
And bathe my skin in water cool and cleansing
And feel, feel what its like to be new

  • Not even they can stop me now
    Boy, I be flying overhead
Their heavy words canโ€™t bring me down
Boy I've been raised from the dead

No one even knows how hard life was
I don't even think about it now because
    I finally found you
    Oh, sing it to me

Now my life is sweet like cinnamon
Like a fucking dream I'm living in
Baby love me cause I'm playing on the radio
(How do you like me now?)

  • "Fix You"

When you try your best, but you don't succeed
When you get what you want, but not what you need
When you feel so tired, but you can't sleep
    Stuck in reverse
And the tears come streaming down your face
When you lose something you can't replace
When you love someone, but it goes to waste
    Could it be worse?

    Lights will guide you home
    And ignite your bones
And I will try to fix you

  • 'Cause all of me
    Loves all of you
Love your curves and all your edges
    All your perfect imperfections
    Give your all to me

    Careful not to rush me
    Into this fine romance

    Raise your glass!"

    ~Pink: Raise Your Glass

    "This girl has got stronger
And if I knew then what I know now
    I would have told myself
    Don't worry any longer
    It's ok
'Cause a face without freckles is like a sky without the stars
Why waste a second not loving who you are
    Those little imperfections make you
    Beautiful, lovable, valuable
They show your personality inside your heart
    Reflecting who you are"

    ~Natasha Bedingfield: Freckles

Those are just some I could think of at the moment.
