It wasn't really my generation but I remember my father had one of his records (and it was an actual vinyl record) and he'd play it and I would say it sounded like music to slash your wrists by.
I would be the biggest fan but Hallelujah immediately came to mind
sister mercy to me is his best

Here's Neil Diamond's beautiful version of Suzanne written by Leonard Cohen. Enjoy:
I've played Hallelujah LOTS of times in weddings, but some time ago in one of those ceremonies, I just took some time to hear how beautiful this song is. Cohen was, for sure, a very gifted man.
In My Secret Life, Stories of The Street, Suzanne.
I also love his poetry and quotes, like this favorite..
"Poetry is just the evidence of life. If your life is burning well, poetry is just the ash"
The Future is heavy in my play lists
Hallelujah, The Partisan, So Long Marianne, Chelsea Hotel #2, and most definitely Bird on a Wire - my favorite.
I am sorry to say i can't recognize him? Can you list some of his popular work?
I used to have to endure Leonard Cohen on car trips when I was little. "First We Take Manhattan" is the one that sticks in my mind.
I like his Songs From a Room album. Maybe Tonight Will Be Fine.
