I'm writing a book. Help me choose a name for my leading character?

Im open to any name suggestions. The name has to have a shortened version/nickname.
The character is a 11-12 year old girl.
She is mainly called by the nickname, only her grandparents call her by her full name.
Thanks so much!!

  • Names are the easy part.
I mean I know this and I'm a SHIT WRITER.

How about Nikki, short for Nicole.

  • I would go for Lilly as it's sounds very cute and innocent and hearing it makes me picture a 11/12 year old girl. Now I don't know if those are characteristics you want to give your character.

for me Izzie doesn't do justice to the name Isabell.

Irene is a nice name, only the nickname doesn't do it for me.

Maybe give her two names and make the initials her nickname?

    • Thanks! The last name is Dewburry. The girl is 11-12, I'm basing her looks after my child. Strawberry blonde hair and blue eyes. The girl does grow into adulthood in the book.

    • she's a girly tomboy but JD doesn't suit my thoughts for her.
      Any suggestions?

    • Sounds good, keep it up!
hmm maybe something like J. J Dewburry?
or maybe as a girly tomboy you could use a name like Josephine and Jo for short or Alexandra/Alexa and go for Alex/Lexy
What did you have in mind yourself with the J for JD?
I don't know if any of this helps :) I'm shooting idea's from the back of my head :)

Just in case you wanted another idea.

Out of yours I prefer Izzie / Isabel, it shows the most contrast between juvenile nickname and formal address.

  • I voted Izzie. Tess short for Theresa is also good.

  • Out of what you have listed I like Isabell the best. Some names that might work are Winter (Winnie), Maddalena (Maddie or Lena), and Antonia (Tony)

    • I do too! Irene was my great grandmother's name. What do you think of Irie? Maybe spelled differently?

    • I like the nickname too. It's a bit more unique, but still clear it comes from Irene.

  • You can call her "Lemay" from "Alemayehu" what means "i have seen the world". When you write a rape story and she is the victim perfect!
