Metallica fans!! would you consider this song intro better as its played backwards?

I know that's weird to read. but in a video the intro to "Blackened" (from... And Justice For All) is played normal at first, but then played backwards. sounds fucking majestic to me backwards. Honestly I thought all songs would sound weird as hell backwards.

Updates:
it starts going backwards at 0:44 in the video

  • I've only listened once but I wasn't exactly sure where the regular passage ends and the backwards version starts. It all just sounds cool, and what a great intro to the thrashing James does on his guitar.

  • As a new song it works. In the context of ANJFA, it would not work as the notes escalate higher. The descending pattern of the normal way fit the album best.

Now for more fun, look up Metallica songs where people transpose the key they are in. Gloom becomes happy, happy becomes sad. All these little subliminal things that give the music a color and feel.

  • When that album came out in August 1988, I immediately bought it. That's how the album opened, I was wondering then if that was a backward effect too.

  • Damn. That's awesome. But, have you seen master of puppets ( But every time he says master it gets faster... we call it faster of puppets)

  • I think you call it retrograde, very common in music composition. Play melodies forwards and backwards.

    • Well I'm a big fan of Iced Earth (specifically the Matt Barlow Period of the nineties to 2011.) and I like Devin Townsend, his music is a bit out their as he is constantly experimenting (as he put it their are bands out their that when you hear the first few second of the song you know exactly who the band is, they have a distinctive style, for him he is known for having no style. He has managed to fuse dance, gospel, etc. into metal its fascinating to listen to (plus he is laid back and has a sense of humor which makes things interesting as well)). Fiver Finger Death Punch is pretty good too. Judas Priest though is really awesome, I've gotten into them fairly recently despite them being around for so long. If we are talking in general I would say Clutch, good rock and awesome blues (very out their lyrically though, as he put it he found that it was more entertaining to sing about stories rather then feelings so he has some interesting songs).

    • Of course you also have Dio, Iron Maiden, as I said Savatage, Helloween, Man of war is alright (some songs are good other can get a bit cheesy), Pantera has some good stuff as well, Mushroom head (more hard rock then metal in my opinion), Saxon, and probably a bunch of others that I just can't think of at the moment.

  • Doesn't really sounds different backwards. Normally the point of a reversing effect is to turn the percussion of the guitar into a rise-to-a-stop like you could do with a violin or breath instruments. Reverse a gregorian chant, now that shit is cool.
