How did leaving Facebook and Instagram change your life?

I quit Facebook in February 2019 completely. I was constantly checking my notifications and news feed, Wherever waiting was involved, I’d be on Facebook or Instagram. I’d panic if I didn’t have a signal. Changes: I spend quality time with my friends and family. I now read books which I didn’t when using Facebook. Instead I use WhatsApp & Quora. Disconnecting from social media made such a huge difference for me. I was so addictive and time-consuming Facebook and other social media, that I didn’t had time for myself or friends and family No intentions ever going back to Facebook or social media. How did leaving Facebook and Instagram change your life?

  • I have a fb but I am not really active on it , I might post twice or 3 times a year. It is useful for me bc of a lot fb events that I d never know if I was not on fb. In terms of wasting time on it, I unfollow people who post too much for me and I log in there once per week to check events

  • Never had Facebook. Just joined instagram a few weeks ago. Mainly to watch Doja Cat’s live streams... but I also use it to be nosy and see what some of my friends are up to. I really don’t know or understand how people get addicted to social media. It’s just an outside look at little worlds that other people are involved in. Sure it’s interesting but it’s not like you’re snorting coke 🤷🏾‍♀️

  • I slowly stopped using facebook about 4 years ago, never been on instagram. I can't say that it changed my life in any way that would be worth mentioning since I've never been really hooked up on it in the first place..
But anyway, great for you ! :)

  • Well I never had an Instagram so quitting that one was easy. I already barely posted on FB but I did have a bad habit of scrolling and watching recipe videos (you know that page tasty) but now I just like. Get up and walk around my room or dorm or something of I get bored. Get more steps in.

  • I use FB regularily, and I cannot quit IG - as I don't own an account.

I have been off Twitter for 3 years now, which has been a neutral change. I miss partly the tweet format, a very useful format, but I also loathe Twitter as a company and @ jack as a person, so I'm happy to be away from it.

  • I also used to spend a lot of time on it but I stopped a couple years ago (yeah I started really young to talk with friends) , I don't remember why exactly but I didn't delete my account

  • I am thinking about also. I keep checking my boyfriend Instagram everyday and it’s driving me crazy like an addiction. Plus is such a waste of time cuz there is nothing relevant just a bunch of fake people showing off.

  • So much better. Just five minutes of Instagram would make me want to self-harm or consider suicide because everyone’s lives look so perfect compared to mine. I decided that it did way more harm than good.

  • I have insta, fb and snap but I’m not addicted to them. I only downloaded them to stay in touch with some friends. There are a lot of groupes in fb that can be very useful, to learn and to even download something

  • I’m fortunate to not feel “addicted” to social media. I do use them daily, but don’t feel a need to get rid of them.

Social media is good for easily keeping contact with family/friends/professional contacts/loved ones all in one place.

  • Fakebook is for memes, nothing more. Never had InstaThot. Only had SnapChat for about a week, and I ended up blocking the person who was the reason I even installed the damn thing. I don't do any of that social media shit any more. It's pointless.

  • Well to be honest I use Instagram mainly for yoga Tutorials and I only really comment on posts from literally two to three followers that I really find interesting, Facebook never had an account... Twitter hardly ever access it and as far as my phone goes I only ever look at it when I have 5 minutes but not in an obsessive way if you think that it's on constant vibrate and in my room all day and when I'm out my phone stays in my bag all the time...

  • I prefer Facebook and still use it. I feel it's more informative. It has groups you can join, you find out about local events without all the extra fluff such as celeb gossip. i don't like Instagram much

  • I haven't quit anything, but I don't sitt on my phone when I'm around friends and family. If someone really needs to get a hold of me they will call me. Also when I'm out traveling I just put music on and I'm on my phone just the bare minimum. It's really not that hard to have a phone AND be part of life around you.

    • @xcccvxcccccc possibly guess it depends on a lot of things especially the childs demeanor if they need help then obviously and wouldn't care if someone had a problem with it

    • @xcccvxcccccc Why are you acting as the 3 year old first of all and i guess if i had a kid id let himn go first.

  • Left Facebook a few years ago, felt the pressure of being “social” gone and never been better. Now it’s just me and my girlfriend “social” wise but I still use messenger occasionally but only to contact close friends I don’t feel comfortable having my number

    • If u don’t trust a close friend with your phone number... you need new close friends

    • You right you right. More like friends from college that never grew up. It’s still cool to hang with them but they get annoying after a while you know what i mean?

    • Totally get you! After college you realize that certain people you thought were friends, were nothing more than partying associates

  • I like GAG , Blurtit, YouTube.. I have Facebook but no addiction
to it whatever comes and goes happens.. I think Facebook is just
Drama Book where people post their whole life and history so no
    that's not for me.

  • I can't speak for others. But I have never had an Instagram account despite many requests and temptations to have an Instagram account. I used to have a Facebook account which I hardly ever used. I think not being part of Facebook and Instagram have helped limit my personal details be used for commercial purposes without my explicit authorization. It has also helped me focused on things and activities that really matter to me. I am able to formulate, to a certain, degree my own opinions of the major news stories without being influenced my data intelligent algorithms.

  • I was off facebook for a while because every time I used it I would get hacked.

This time I created a new account with only one or two friends from my old list and I used a fake name

Also the person who hacked my facebook over and over again has not seem me in over 13 years and doesn't know what I look like

I got my account back cause I felt like God wanted me to create my facebook account again

Without facebook I would have never dated my ex-boyfriend since neither of us could afford to go on dates in person very often

  • I deactivated Facebook and Instagram back in September 2018 and I unpublished my artist page a few days ago after not posting anything on there for a couple of years. Deactivating made it a little easier for me to focus on more productive things or do more of what I enjoy. Instead of scrolling through the feed I’m looking for art inspiration.

I am not exactly proud of where my life is and how my mind works so it’s better I stay off of those sites. Maybe when I’m in a better place and mindset I’ll go back on there, but that feels so far away.
