Games like Halo and (now) Apex Legends are my favorite kinds... They're more "Arena" style, run and gun... confrontational shooters, but the longer kill-times mean that you have to basically out-maneuver, out-shoot, or out-man the enemy...It comes down to individual skill in your 1v1's, but when you get two really strong teams against each other, the team-play element really matters. Flanks are super important, where people are (relative to each other) is important, who is shooting at who, locking down certain angles/sightlines... A good player could quickly assess the situation, go on a flank and mow down 3 or 4 players quickly, or wipe a team, just because they put themselves in the right place at the right time. THAT'S fun!
I do not play First Person Shooters much, but if I do, I prefer a more realistic game where cover is the difference between life and death, for me, it is more immersive and presents a greater challenge.Fast paced shooters are a bit too easy and mindless for my liking (no offense to those who like them.)
I'm not big into first-person shooters. I've dabbled in Call of Duty but when I do play FPS games, I play Overwatch... and I consider myself pretty decent at it. When I play FPS games, I'd rather play a fast-paced shooter although there's nothing wrong with a cover based shooter.I'd rather play an RPG though.
Any RPG recomendations
@up_64 Depends on what you like. If you like more JRPG's, I highly recommend the latest Dragon Quest game. It was so much fun to play and I still haven't totally completed the game yet. I also recommend the last Final Fantasy to come out. It was a long journey but it was a lot of fun.If your more into action based RPG's I highly recommend The Witcher series, The Fallout series, Kingdom Hearts series (I was somewhat disappointed in Kingdom Hearts 3) and maybe the most infamous series... Dark Souls/Bloodborne/Nioh/Sekiro. The Souls series is one of the most difficult in all of gaming. But there's nothing more rewarding than taking down an Uber difficult boss.
Have an opinion?
I think I don’t care much. I prefer a fast paced game but I don’t really see why gow is automatically not fast simply because you have a cover mechanism. Halo was one of my fave games of all time though.
Halo is my all-time favourite but I'm also a big Gears fan. So cover is good but I like a mix in general.Of course, I also tend to play marksman or sniper, so cover is very useful for those.
My favorite ones are the more tactical ones like the first two Brothers in Arms games on the original Xbox. After that I like the ones paced like the older COD games back when there were no super powers. I liked the modes of CTF, Demolition, Domination, Hardpoint, and Free for All.
I've been playing since I was 2 years old. That means Duke Nukem all the way up to now, and what I can say is fast paced will always be around, cover-based combat can and might dilute because of the different ways you can manipulate the cover like in GoW multiplayer.
I've only really played a couple of them and they weren't very popular games. It's because I don't like the genre. I always preferred third person view.First person should just be for virtual reality.
An FPS can be fast paced with a cover system or slow paced without cover system. These are not mutually exclusive. I like slower paced games where you can die fast if you are not careful, like Insurgency Sandstorm for example.
I'm a big Halo fan, and I tend top prefer the more fast-pace type, but appreciate a decent amount of variety.
Action based. Cover in FPS is annoying and clunky most of the time.I prefer cover based third person shooters better though.
In my 15 years experience being both a pc and playstation gamer I can say both is far better then one over the other.
Both, I loved Doom, but the games I enjoy are like red orchestra or post scriptum they are slow paced tactical team shooters, not run and gun
Fast paced action in solo FPS. I don't play multiplayer unless it's coop.
Cover systems. I don’t play multiplayer shooters and I enjoy games like Uncharted (TPS I know).
League Of Legends all day everyday
I'm more into games with cars and car racing
Black ops 4 I prefer fast twitch shooters
What is a cover system?
Escape from tarkov :^)
Borderlands/ overwatch type ability based cover.
Fast pace. Titan fall all the way.
a bit of both
