Why do some people assume that someone who plays video games doesn't have a life?

I hear things like "grow up, get a life" "I never play video games because I have a real life". Do these people not realize that you can do both? Every one has both a life and hobbies and video games are just like any other hobby. When some people hear I'm a gamer they automatically assume I don't have a job or anything and just play games 24/7. I don't get it. Also I'm 29, I'm not a teenager anymore whose parents buy games for, I'm an adult who without a job couldn't afford video games or consoles lol so clearly I have/need one.
