  'Only A Northern Song' is rock. 'Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band' is rock. 'Helter Skelter' is rock. You're only 18, your understanding of what "rock" is still limited.

  Queen is indeed legendary and I had the pleasure of seeing them but they came after these guys. Don’t forget all The Who songs you hear on TV to this day. Does the CSI family come to mind?

  Beatles are in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. It’s interesting to a huge illuminated sign at the entrance to the Hall quotes a Who song “Long live rock”

  Lately I’ve been baffled by the choices. It’s like they’re trying to give everyone a participation trophy or something. Let them get their own hall. Country music has one. Rap is not rock music.

I'm not a really a fan of any of these bands but I hear most praise going towards the Beatles, so I chose them. Though I'm not a fan I've still got mad respect for each of these bands undeniable talent.

I love all of them, but The Who have always topped the list for me. Pete Townshend never simply wrote songs or churned out little ditties - he was a composer in his own right and he put thought and effort into his work. They were all simply superb musicians. I took up bass guitar after hearing John Entwitsle, the master.

He’s also the one with the most musical training. A classical background, just like me. He did orchestral string arrangements for REM in the early 90’s.
