I'd personally put it under rap or experimental rap/music.
i was trying to think which on you list might have been born out of civil unrest and all i can think of is early soul but it just doesn't go with this at all... maybe some rock but most of it was commercialized before it started... maybe country but not the 'give me back my man' stuff
in the uk it comes under grime but the white guy isn't a grime artist... sleafor mods are more a protest band that defy all pidgeonholing but we have a lot of that going on in the uk right now and its really a very good thing
oh and as for experimental the actual music has been around since the mid 90s here so maybe its more of an evolution than experiment
3 out 4 people have chosen rock. I didn't see that coming. Why did you chose rock?
I listen to a lot of rock lol. and a lot of my favorite songs are rock

Pop would have probably been my choice, as well, if not for classical.
I listen to mostly pop music anyway so it was an easy choice for me
I had to look that up.
