What is his background, personality, goal, and what makes him up as a person? Is there a hidden meaning why he's called Riker? Maybe as a nickname used mainly in the book. But have a more formal name.

'Riker' sounds more like a last name. As in, Commander Will Riker from the Star Trek TNG series.

It's got a stereotypical "tough guy" ring to it. Like any character with the last name "Steel." If that's what you were going for, you nailed it.
