What's with pop music, why do people listen to something that could only be popular through peer pressure?

Question

Seriously, I haven't listened to anything of the sort since I got my first headphones at eight years old. Why wouldn't other headphone owners flee that for something with more complexity than my four year old autistic little brothers drumming on the same drum day in and day out?

To me it seems like it could only be popular through peer pressure, so why does it seem like some people enjoy it privately?

I would argue that there’s a lot of GREAT pop music out there today, you just don’t typically hear it on the radio or see it trending much...

There's a difference between music that caters to Top-40 and pop music, an increasingly more radical one... they are not always one in the same.

Again, there’s a big difference between pop music that caters to the format, or “requirements” of Top-40 and pop music that doesn’t... if you look for some alternative artists, you will find some solos, different chords, and smarter lyrics. And sometimes songs are just meant to be fun, so they’ll be “dumb”... but I definitely think there’s “smart” dumb pop songs.

I don't know man, it’s a lot more nuanced than the way you’re approaching it... “POP MUSIC BAD”... Nahhh, not true.
