70s - funk
80s - glam rock/punk rock
90s - grunge movement made rock sound depressing.
And so on

I like the way you said "recycled". It seems like within the past few years the appeal to 80s style music and even other aesthetics has seen a resurgence. That show stranger things and vaporwave as examples.
Agreed! Often times you'll here an old song in movie trailers, video game trailers, advertisements. They've got some timeless quality.

The trends part is too complicated. I'm no musical expert. I don't even understand musical genres. When I was younger I'd hang out in a club and annoy DJs if I liked their music asking them, "What sorta music izzat?" while inebriated. I do love the rise of fancy keyboards in the 80s though and how they played a prominent role in pop music.
