It's the number where you don't burn yourself out. Do something fairly comfortable and reasonable for yourself to do. Because what I tend to do is a lot then I will avoid it all together because it is causing me too much stress to continue it. So don't let it be a source of stress that causes you to escape from it but let it be a source of joy that you enjoy doing. You want it to feel like less of a chore as possible
Seriously start with 1. If you can write 2 in a day, that's good. I know 1 doesn't seem like a lot, but trust me it will start to feel like a lot and if you push for too much every day you'll burn out fast. 1 or 2 a day is steady progress. You'll have days where al of a sudden 5 pages come easily and you'll have days when each sentence feels like pulling teeth lol.
Tolkien made ca. 3.5 pages in average for 'LOTR'. Tolstoi, 'War and Peace': 0.9 pages. Shilling shockers are about 12 a day - weekends off. It's your choice :D
