Very beautiful. Thank you for sharing. This is definitely one of my favorite songs if Billy Joels and is very underrated. I feel like i just relate to it a lot. What you wrote here makes a lot of sense :)

Its just telling a person who has been hurt in the past that they will be there for hem pretty much. They are willing to roll with whatever that person does so they can heal or be healed. This line in my opinion is just pointing out that some people have gone through so much at a young age that they dont get to fully enjoy and appreciate their youth as much as others. And this person singing the song (joel) is willing to help them through it and maybe experience some of the joyous happy feelings theyve missed entirely or has long ago but only now can re experience them again.Either way this song always spoke to me since i heard it all the way back in the 80s. One of Billy Jlels most underrated songs ever.
Oh, I’m sorry! I thought that you asked us to tell you what the line meant to us. That being said, given that it’s art, it can mean whatever the listener wants it to mean, and you have a very interesting take on it. Thanks for your input. That being said.. wasn’t this song a hit when it came out, I don’t think this was underrated? I think “Angry Young Man” (his best piano playing ever) and “Goodnight Saigon” are his most underrated songs that also happen to be spectacularly good with the latter being equally moving, as It makes me cry every time I hear it. Thanks for the question, and for making me think of some songs I haven’t heard in a while.
Im not sure if it was a hit or not but it definitely never appears on his top tens or anytging. And yes i did ask for opinions and yours is perfectly valid. But i felt like my response kinda added to it, not discredit it. didn't mean for it to come across that way. :p
No problem hun, I didn’t take it that way… more of a “actually it means…” kinda vibe. We’re good babe, still love ya 😘💋
Yes babe you have an amazing wit. Keep it up 😘

or more like those girls would touch him at that age
Yes this sounds good
I see through the eyes of spock before i get a look at kim kardashian ;)
Doesn’t mean he has a low sex drive at all.
But later down the road, changed his mind and gave in, as do most people when temptation takes over.
But at the same time, the singer is being critical about it so he keeps repeating that he’s a “good guy”
Obviously convincing a woman to have a little fun with him
That nothing is wrong with a little fun...
And so he makes it seem like a disappointment, that someone who spent their youth looking through the eyes of the old, and changed their lifestyle down the road, missed out on a lot. Like. See? You gave in.. you could’ve been doing this the whole time.
I think its more people grow up too fast at times, don’t experience what childhood or adolescence is like for very long or at all due to unfortunate circumstances.
Yeah I get that I was thinking along the lines of Youth always get the blame for not being how elders expect them to be but said elders forget they faced the same critiscism
