If a person loses a Parent from a young age, can it have long lasting effects whilst growing up?

I'm aware when it comes down to grief and bereavement, it's possible you may be to recover over time.
If experiencing the loss of a loved one can cause a shock to the system, is there a chance this may cause mental issues and erratic behavioural traits which could manifest later on in adulthood?
