Doesn't it suck when your partner's parents never like you?

In many cases where the parents eventually warm up to their child's partner, it's usually for the sake of keeping the peace, they have no choice but to shut up if they got nothing good to say and just to be cordial.

They'll never really like you and you know it. All the reunions are ackward. Doesn't that kind of sucks?

Even though your relationship is the only thing that matters, if I were in that position I can't help but feel bad that I'll always be viewed as an outsider, never develop a close bond with them (I would always have to be picky on my topics and keep it trivial and short) and never feel as an additional family member.

Only one of my SO's parents knows about me so far and she openly hates me. Circumstance means her father can't know until we marry, but I doubt I can get along with him either.

It bothers me because they won't speak to me or give me a chance. They say some pretty messed up stuff about my religion, they dislike my nationality, and they aren't thrilled about my race.

It's hard, but my fiancee loves them so I do too. I'll never stop trying to get along.

Sorry to hear that. Yeah that can cause stress in a relationship. Thing is even if they come around, since you already know they hate you... then you'll know it's gonna be just cordial and fake.

I doubt it. I'm christian. They're muslim and very bigoted. If they act cordial at all it'll be once they have truly come around or developed a bit of respect toward me.

If they hate your religion, nationality and race then I got bad news:
Those are strong ingrained stances that a person will not suddenly change and make a 180 turn overnight. Nope, they'll always think like that.

Yeah then you're in for a long ride. Honestly, I'm not sure if I would be able to continue a relationship where I'm hated like that. I like the idea of a big family where everyone gets along and there is true peace, no fake niceness.
So I guess as long as your girlfriend loves you enough to put up with it and stands up to you, then ok.

Yeeeaaaah... They don't like that I'm American either. I also don't keep my mouth shut when people say certain things about jews... I never had too much hope that they'd come to like me. The language barrier might actually be a blessing.
