I see no reason why you’d be hated for being unattractive. Stay away from shallow people, they are beneath you. Self-reliance and confidence are both positive traits to have, however to be truly self-reliant you must have no concern for the way in which others may scrutinise you - no concern for how much or how little you are liked.
