Isn't "you can't choose your family" wrong?

None of us chose to be born or to have the biological siblings, aunts, uncles, cousins, etc that we have. Any of us can walk away from these families at any time in our life span but that does not mean they aren't still forever and always your biological family---hence, you can't choose.

Now beyond that, whether you leave your bio family because they are a dumpster fire of disappointment or you simply chose to adopt a child into your life or become a member by association and love of another family that shares no biological relationship nor who have adopted you, then yes, you can choose that family and it can provide the same if not greater love than if you shared DNA because a family can also mean who takes care of you and supports you and loves you.

I think it refers to people who are dependent or interpretively indebted to family they did not chose for themselves

Like I do not get along with my family and trying not to hate them is a daily temptation and choice I have to make over and over again

We don’t have the same values and they are also emotionally toxic to anybody who chooses to be vulnerable with them

The parents chose, but the children didn't. Children are the only exception to the rule. You can choose your children, husbands, and wives, but that's it. You can't choose your brothers, sisters, parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, etc.

Course you can choose your fam. I disowned lots a long time ago. At this point only 4 are remaining and even theyre close to getting cut off

Yeap. I chose my family. All but 3 of my biological family can drop dead for all I care.
