Really depends on the girl. I told a girl and she didn't talk to me again, then a different one, we were friends for 5 years before we left school.
If you have a crush on a friend, maybe they feel the same back, but if the friendship is real then she'll accept your feelings and see past it

I like to show over tell. You can balance the risks more easily that way. I also think it's politer because you don't dump anything heavy on her -- instead, you invite her someplace and maybe make her smile, laugh, and find mutual touch.

Lounge in the house. Put arm over her. Pull her close. Work the hands. Invite her to a night club and dance together, have some drinks, pull her close, get face-to-face, aim for a kiss. I dunno. It's hard to explain. But in the worst-case scenario, I think it offers a nicer recovery than an outright verbal confession. You can shrug it off like, "That's cool, no problem, let's keep having fun!" And in the middle case scenario where she's iffy about you still, all the physical closeness and intimacy might warm her up to you. And in the best-case scenario where she likes you the same way, this plan will surely work out anyway.
