I think they should spend equal time with the Holidays between both the Roommate and the Family members, Sometimes it's hard to choose and I know it sucks on New Years Eve being alone

Right... I wouldn’t mind if he spent a few hrs with them and then come home and spend the remaining time with me like he’s known me longer or if he spent some time with me before he went to theirs
