Would you keep hanging out with someone if you had no intention of being friends?

I have a friend like that. We met through my best friend/rommate and she was his coworker turned friend. He wanted me to try to be friends with her because she doesn't have a lot of female friends so I said sure what could it hurt to try? I didn't think we'd still be friends. We had an alright time our first time hanging out but she became clingy and while I think I'm awesome in my own way, she would rave about me and was always asking how I am and how I'm feeling. she got my number from my friend before i found out she was a little too much and if i dont text her back in 15mins she'll send question marks and ask my friend where I'm at. I dont set out to hurt anyone's feelings and while she is annoying at times, I know she already had problems with connecting to other women and has had really bad experiences in the past, so I continue to hang out with her. She's mellowed out a bit and over the years I've dealt with her but I don't think she would be someone I would regularly hang out with if it wasn't for my roommate. We do our own girls day things on occasion and I don't feel sorry for her or anything but I know she isn't a friend I'd have chosen for myself by myself.

I don't think why would someone want to hang out if not for being friends, I will not.
