Parents: at what age is it inappropriate for children to come in to your bedroom and get in bed with you in the middle of the night? (Page 2)

Question

This question is NOT at what age your child should stop sharing your bed routinely. I am asking about those nights when a child comes into your room and says they are scared, can't sleep, whatever excuse, and they want to get in bed with you. This issue arose in a private conversation recently and I had no context for understanding since I have never had children. If you are a single parent, does the answer depend on whether the child is your gender or opposite gender?

WE had 3 kids in 3 years and after a while the big bed got pretty crowded so we had to start kicking them out.

Well when I was a kid I wanted comfort with the loud thunder storms and when I turned about 12 my dad would just sleep on the couch and I would lay with my mom

We were never allowed to crawl into bed with our parents when we were little and my/our children were never allowed to either.

As long as child is fine sleeping in their own bed once they get out of the toddle stage, then that's that. I dont think it matters.

If one of my children was to say they needed me in the middle of the night id be there for them. There was an age though when they were younger like 4-7 that they’re just taking the piss so you send them
back to there own bed

There is no age where that is appropriate, then they are old enough to have their own beds sleeping in the same room as the parents is over.

It depends if it’s a couple or just the one parent but I don’t remember having my kids come in bed with us past 5 or 6

It's just sharing a place to sleep, they could do it as much as they wanted unless I'm about to have sex or whatever.

I gonna say 10+ because my brother is 9 and he still sleeps with our mom almost all the time we’re with her.
