Why do hairdressers always use technical terms when asking what I want?

so every time i go in to have my hair done i always tell them what i want done, then they come up with a different word each time that you clearly wouldn't know unless you did some sort of hairdressing course. Why not just tell it me in normal words then i actually know what they mean?

  • If you don't understand what they are saying, ask for a definition. That way you educate yourself and now what to ask for from another barber/stylist if you go elsewhere

  • Maybe it's so that you know what to ask for next time.

    • like today i just said "2 on sides and back and a little off the top". and he asked "do you want a tapered neck?" - no idea what that means 😂
