I lived through the 1970s. I both loved it and thought it was bad.
Once the discoheads took over, it got really bad.
However the mens hairstyles in the last 20 years have not helped.

There's good and bad in each. I think due to the war the 1930s and 1940s were pretty boring but I think objectively 1990s and the 2000s were the tackiest. Some of the 80s is great but it has it's bad parts. I love the 1920s though and through though. My personal favourite is the 70s, I know it's not perfect and some may consider it horrendous but for me it's the most charming, especially from the Australian standpoint since that was the era in which Australiana was in full swing and it was this great intersection between the formalities of the past, still bringing on natural aesthetics and not branding off into pure tack like the 80s but remaining casual and wearable unlike decades prior. For example:
1960s every day wear was nice but impractical and rather formal:
1980s was much closer to the current trends but was kind of hideous and fake
