Need advice on what I can wear for EXTREME cold (10F or -12C) and not die?

That's not extreme, that's mild :)

I used to sleep outside in a sleeping bag without a tent in much colder temperatures. (-20F, -30C)

Anyway, the trick is layering. Wear thermal long underwear and shirts if you have them. Thermals make a huge difference. Wear thick socks, but not if it makes the shoes too tight.

On top wear a T-Shirt, with a thermal shirt over it. Then a heavy warm shirt or thick sweater. Layer over it with something thinner than a full jacket. Then lastly, the jacket itself. When you go back inside, you can peal things off one at a time to adjust to indoor temperature.

A warm hat and scarf can do wonders. Wear a good wool scarf, and use it to cover your mouth and lower face if you need to. Add gloves or mittens. If it's really cold, wear some kind of face covering. With all of this, you will have almost no skin exposed to the weather.

Is all of this fashionable? Probably not. But you have a choice of fashionable or warm.

If you will be outside long enough to get wet socks, maybe bring an extra pair.

A suggestion for outer wear. With an anorak, or a coat that cinches in at the waist, it's cute, comfy like you're zipped in a sleeping bag, & it blocks cold wind from going up the bottom or down the front. I also find a tucked in shirt, even if under an untucked 1 if you don't like that style, helps with warmth. I told a good Friend who moved to Louisiana, & when she moved back to Washington, she said that wearing something tucked under her untucked 1, or more than 1 if too extremely cold, was the only way she could stand the cold until she readjusted from 5 years in the milder temperatures of New Orleans.

At -12 I wouldn't need much more the my jeans & a jacket gloves & a toque. Best throw in some boots to. Extreme is more like the weather here. It has been -30 to -32 for 3 mornings in a row. If you factor in the wind chill closer to 40 below.

You need a winter jacket, not just a jacket. And a hat and a scarf. Especially if it's windy. And boots that will keep your feet warm, not thin boots. And if you are going to be outside for long, you need to wear pants. Possibly wear thermal underwear, if the wind is blowing and you will be outside for a while.

in that weather, I just wear jeans with boots, possibly some under armor for my legs, a T-shirt and a snow jacket, and bam I feel perfect.

Wear multiple layers. Underclothing, shirt/blouse/sweater and Winter jacke with a hood. Wear hat, gloves, and long pants with nylons and warm boots.

You're not going to die in 10F unless you get drunk and fall asleep in the snow wearing a bikini. A thick sweater, winter boots and an insulated (down) jacket will do. I also recommend a beanie and mittens to keep your ears and fingers warm.
