Is it weird to ask for a number after a minute or two of talking?

Anonymous
This happens to me a lot and im always stuck and confused on what to do.

This scenario did not literally happen to me, but it pretty much is very similar to all the situations I get into

Let's say I'm a cashier at a local wawa. A cute girl comes to the register to purchase something, no other customers or employees near us. I notice she's wearing a shirt of my favorite band so I ask if she saw them live recently, and she says yes and we talk for a minute. Now she's about to leave... should I ask for her number?

This confuses me because it feels weird asking when you've only talked to them for a minute (maybe less) but you don't really have a choice ya know?

Thoughts? Any stories/experiences as well?

Guys and girls forget the "work ethic" thing. Like I said this situation does not literally happen to me at work. In fact it mainly happens to me outside of work
