How to ask a girl out? I see her walking on campus from time to time.

Ok, so I walk past this girl once or twice a week on my way to class, and I want to go up to her and talk to her, and maybe ask her out (or number, which would be better?). I just don't really know how to go about it other than "Hi, I've seen you walking here before and I think you are cute and would be interested in getting to know you more" or something or other.

Im just a little apprehensive about trying this cause I'm not sure what her reaction will be. (will she think its weird/creepy?) What should I do?
