I tried smiling but it didn't work...I expected him to return the smile and walk up to me...

How do I flirt properly..? I want to try asking a dude out on my own...not let him do the work.

I need some input and some help.

smiling is a good start but if guys are like me I don't hardly know when someone is flirting with me. I thing you have consider when you smile at someone is that you don't know there situation, what they might be in the middle of doing or that they are just not interested. I have smiled at a lot of women in my life and have dated very few of them. If you are really interested in them and they don't walk up to you you are going to have to go up to them. What gets a guy to notice is good eye contact, the smile, and when you are talking to him just touch is arm or something non perverted, he will notice. If the guys are like me they might have a fear of rejection and won't ask you out, but if you go to them it might alleviate some of that fear. It is big turn on when a woman makes the first move. I have went out with women that I probably would have never asked out on my own because I was shy or thought I didn't have a chance with them.

If the guy finds himself attracted to you, a smile will do the trick if he's not overly shy. Grocery stores are a great place to pick us up! (LOL) Course that works the other way around too. If you feel like asking a guy out? Go for it. Especially if he IS shy, it'll make his day. Seems like you've got the right idea.

  lol really I did forget. I was mid writting it when I realized your age. then I deleted it and asked your age. now I can't remember : / anyway I guess Godsgift's advice is decent. I would add be a little more devious and playful, tease him with stuff like, "ye we might have that in common but I am not your sister" very cheeky things which will make a guy think... why did she add that?

First glance at him every now and then, until you catch him looking at you too. If you do catch his gaze, smile and say hi! He should return the greeting with a smile or hello, or both! If he doesn't do that, then he's just rude and you don't want anything to do with those kind of people.

If you meet his eyes again, giggle and look away, this could send signals that you are interested, if he does not talk to you first you go to him.

Start this conversation with something like "Oh, that shirt you have on looks great on you!" Just continue from there!

When you feel as though the conversation can come to a close (and leave him wanting more) tell him you enjoyed talking with him, tell him you would love to see him again, this should give him the idea that you are interested and he will probably ask for a number, if not you ask him (unless his body language says he is not interested)

If you want him to come to you, walk by him and do a hair flip, but please make the hair flip natural! No guy wants a fake ditz. If you feel him looking at you when you stop, smile a little and giggle to yourself as if you remembered something funny (but don't look at him while doing this), it will be inviting and cute. Glance at him and smile and look away shyly.

Make sure you read his body language, if he is not looking interested, end the conversation.
