Here's one way to go. You can just stop all subtlety and just tell your friend that you don't like him. If you want to stay friends, I would also suggest sitting him down and explaining it to him and being nice about it. Personally I don't think trying to send signals and expecting a guy to "get the hint" is a good way of doing things. Like, ever. It's just annoying, occasionally bitchy, and ultimately it's not generally that effective, as it only works part of the time. Just tell him what's what.

As for your crush, just be nice to him, flirt with hm, laugh at some jokes or at least smile if they're not that funny. Maybe give him gifts you think will hold personal meaning to him. Subtly touching him also works. I don't mean sexually, but like your hand on his back or shoulder, maybe his arm or legs or something. Physical contact can help. Still don't go doing anything that flies in the face of what you would normally do. The point is to be yourself, because after you get him, you're eventually gonna just be yourself, and you'll rather he likes you for who you were then and are now.

If none of that gets anywhere, just try the direct approach, and tell him how you feel. If he doesn't go for it, the worst you'll get is a no, and it's not like you'll ruin any friendships trying. It will mostly likely only get weird if you let it get weird, as your average guy doesn't freak out if a girl likes him, and he doesn't feel the same way. So your last resort, the direct approach, is not really all that drastic in the end, so keep it in mind in case all the things I told you doesn't pan out like you hoped.
